The state of South Dakota and MRC Regional Railroad Authority recently granted overhead trackage rights to Dakota Southern Railway Co. (DSRC) over 142 miles of state-owned lines between Mitchell, S.D., and Sioux City, Iowa.

The 187-mile short line plans to use the lines to interchange with Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corp. in Mitchell; and BNSF, Union Pacific Railroad and Canadian National Railway Co. in Sioux City.

The state and MRC also agreed to grant DSRC limited local trackage rights on the Mitchell-to-Sioux City line to move carloads of corn, soybeans and wheat originating at points on a DSRC-operated line between Mitchell and Kadoka, S.D., and terminating at elevators in Mitchell and Beardsley, S.D.
