Rail News: M&A
On Friday, TransCore announced it completed a transaction to acquire IntelliTrans, which markets track and trace software to the rail and intermodal industries.
TransCore will combine IntelliTrans’ in-transit tracking, maintenance, repair, yard and inventory management software with its transportation-based radio frequency identification (RFID) and satellite communications products to offer seamless rail, truck, container, barge and intermodal applications. TransCore also will merge its CarrierPoint organization, which provides Web-based transportation management systems, into IntelliTrans’ reporting structure.
“Bringing together two essential functions within the logistics process and eliminating gaps in the supply chain will expedite the flow of valuable data and further enhance asset utilization,” said TransCore President John Worthington in a prepared statement.
In the 1990s, the Association of American Railroads adopted TransCore’s RFID technology as the standard for automatic equipment identification (AEI). To date, TransCore has installed more than 6.5 million RFID tags and 20,000 AEI readers throughout the worldwide rail and intermodal industries.
