Central Washington Railroad Co. (CWR) recently leased 49 miles of branch lines and industrial tracks in Washington state from Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Under a 15-year lease agreement, CWR will operate the branch lines between Gibbon and Yakima, and Yakima and Moxie City, and the industrial lines in Yakima. The short line will interchange with BNSF in Gibbon and Yakima.

"We believe CWR has the local business development expertise and operating focus to benefit the customer base along these lines, while enabling customers to take advantage of BNSF's network reach," said BNSF Vice President of Network Development Pete Rickershauser in a prepared statement.

CWR also reached a trackage rights agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to operate over about 11 track miles in Grandview, Sunnyside and Yakima.
