Watco Cos. Inc. recently acquired the operations of Fitzgerald Railcar Services Inc. (FRSI), which will become a part of Watco Mechanical Services.

FRSI provides rail-car repair and maintenance services at shops in Fitzgerald, Ga., and Omaha, Neb. The Fitzgerald shop is served by CSX Transportation and Omaha shop, by Union Pacific Railroad.

"The FRSI shops give us opportunities to expand our customer reach in mechanical services, and the Fitzgerald shop provides an opportunity to expand our repair services in the southeast part of the U.S., which is one of the fastest growing regions in the country," said Watco Chief Executive Officer Rick Webb in a prepared statement.

Watco owns 17 short lines operating in 15 states.
