DART orders two additional streetcars from Brookville

The city of Dallas and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) earlier this month exercised an option to purchase two additional “Liberty Modern” streetcars from Brookville Equipment Corp.

The option was part of a 2013 contract calling for Brookville to supply DART with its first two streetcar vehicles, which were delivered in the first half of 2015.

Slated for delivery in summer 2016, the additional off-wire capable streetcars will be identical to the first vehicles and will add capacity for DART's forthcoming expansion to Oak Cliff's Bishop's Arts District, which is under construction.

DART's current streetcars operate on a 1.6-mile starter line from Union Station in downtown Dallas to the Oak Cliff region.

"The customer and community response to the streetcar has been great. We are looking forward to extending it and working with Brookville to help our communities grow with great transit choices,” said DART President and Executive Director Gary Thomas.
