Patriot Rail Corp. and CF Rail Services L.L.C. recently entered into long-term rail-car services agreements affecting certain Patriot Rail-owned short lines.

Under the pacts, which took effect Sept. 1, CF Rail Services leased the rail-car and locomotive inspection and repair facilities at the DeQueen & Eastern (DQE), Columbia and Cowlitz (CLC) and Golden Triangle (GTRA) railroads. CF Rail Services will repair both Patriot Rail-owned and privately owned cars and locomotives at the facilities, which include DQE’s repair shops and locomotive wheel shop in DeQueen, Ark., and a car shop in Valliant, Okla.; GTRA’s locomotive and car shops in Columbus, Miss.; and CLC’s locomotive and car shops in Longview, Wash.

CF Rail Services also hired Patriot Rail’s existing maintenance-of-equipment workers to perform car repairs and provide other services. Patriot Rail — which owns and operates 12 shorts in 12 states — is working to further expand its relationship with the service provider at additional properties, company officials said in a prepared statement.
 
“This agreement allows Patriot to more fully utilize assets at our railroads and generate significant income through lease revenues and reduced labor costs,” said Patriot Rail Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Marino.
