The total rail-car backlog declined from 111,019 units on Dec. 31, 2015, to 95,038 units on April 1, according to first-quarter 2016 reporting statistics from the Railway Supply Institute Inc.The backlog previously stood at 122,591 units on Oct. 1, 2015, and 135,805 units on July 1, 2015.First-quarter 2016 orders declined to 6,646 units compared with 15,952 units in last year's first quarter. Orders in fourth-quarter 2015 stood at 9,159 units.Meanwhile, deliveries totaled 82,296 units in 2015, compared with 67,228 units in 2014.
