Smart-Hose Technologies unveils hose safety system

advertisement

Smart-Hose Technologies recently introduced the Smart-Hose™ Safety System, a hose assembly designed to automatically shut off flow in both directions after a hose failure.

The system connects a coated cable within a hose bore to a hose-end point’s valve plungers, wedges or flappers. The assembly acts as a compression spring to hold valves open during normal conditions. When thrust is eliminated because of coupling ejection, or hose stretching or separation, the system’s valves are designed to seat themselves, halting flow in either direction.

The company is marketing the assembly for rail, trucking, ocean transportation, chemical processing, offshore drilling, petroleum refining, pharmaceutical and food processing applications.

Smart-Hose Technologies retains a U.S. Department of Transportation exemption for rail-car and tank-car unloading, and the governmental mandate requiring a passive device for loading and unloading compressed-gas cargo tankers.
