The Greenbrier Cos. recently obtained orders from two customers to modify 2,500 existing 48-foot double-stack intermodal platforms into 40-foot double-stack platforms. The company will perform the work at six shops through early 2008.

As an original builder of many 48-footers, Greenbrier is positioned to obtain more platform modification orders, according to the company. Currently, there are 50,000 48-foot double-stack platforms in service in North America.

Greenbrier builds freight cars in the United States, Canada, and Mexico; repairs and refurbishes cars, and provides wheels and car parts in North America; builds and refurbishes freight cars in Poland for the European market; and owns about 10,000 cars and manages 135,000 cars.
