Alstom, Kawasaki to supply another 620 subway cars for NYCT

Yesterday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board approved purchasing an additional 620 subway cars for MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) from Alstom Transport and Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. The authority will exercise options on a July 2002 contract totaling $1.1 billion.

Under its $686 million portion of the contract, Alstom will supply an additional 360 R160 subway cars, which NYCT will use to replace older cars. Kawasaki will supply the remaining 260 cars.
