Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) passengers soon will view real-time train information on platforms and in trains, and digitally transmitted local news and entertainment in passenger cars as part of an agreement PATH parent the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reached with NBC Universal and JC Decaux, N.A.
Under the pact, NBC will serve as a subcontractor to JC Decaux, which the port authority hired in July 2005 to provide a range of advertising, and news and specialty media.
Eight television screens will be installed on each of the 340 cars that Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. is building for PATH. The cars are scheduled to enter service between 2008 and 2011. PATH will install new platform monitors beginning next year.
