ARCI: Car orders climbed, deliveries slipped in second quarter

Rail-car orders in the second quarter totaled 7,555 units compared with 6,646 units in the first quarter and 19,786 units in second-quarter 2015, according to quarterly statistics released last week by the Railway Supply Institute Inc.'s American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI).

Car deliveries in 2Q fell slightly to 15,655 units from 16,834 units in 1Q. Deliveries previously totaled 20,296, 20,476 and 21,567 cars in fourth-, third- and second-quarter 2015, respectively.

Meanwhile, that rail-car backlog stood at 89,155 units on July 1 versus 95,038 units on April 1, according to ARCI data. The backlog previously totaled 111,019 units on Dec. 31, 2015, and 122,591 units on Oct. 1, 2015.
