Bombardier constructs 1,000th carbody for Long Island, Metro-North railroads

Bombardier Transportation’s La Pocatiere, Quebec, production plant recently reached a car-building milestone: The facility completed the 1,000th carbody for two New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority commuter railroads.

Bombardier is producing 1,172 M-7 commuter-rail cars for MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad — one of the largest rolling stock contracts ever awarded in the North American passenger-rail car market, according to Bombardier.

The company’s 30-year-old La Pocatiere site builds stainless-steel carbodies for the trains before shipping them to a second Bombardier production site in Plattsburgh, N.Y., for final assembly.
