Brookville Equipment Corp. (BEC) recently obtained a contract to supply 11 low-emission locomotives to MTA Metro-North Railroad and four locomotives to Staten Island Railroad. The contract include an option for up to 10 additional units.

Metro-North will operate the locomotives on the Shore Line East, and Danbury and Waterbury branches. To be delivered between fourth-quarter 2007 and first-quarter 2008, the 2,000-horsepower units ware designed to exceed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s “Tier 2” emission standards.

Later this year, BEC plans to unveil a new multi-engine CoGeneration™ locomotive series. The unit will be powered by a diesel engine, batteries and overhead catenary that can operate simultaneously or individually, the company said.
