CSXI's monthly fuel surcharge up a notch for January

advertisement

Today, CSX Intermodal expects to implement its January fuel surcharge, which will rise 0.1 percent compared with December's 3.6 percent.

Based on the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) price index, the 3.7 percent fuel surcharge follows CSXI's other recent surcharges of 3.6 percent, 3 percent, 3.7 percent and 3.1 percent in November, October, September and August, respectively.

CSXI adjusts its monthly surcharge the first Monday of each month based on the difference between the DOE’s price index the previous Monday (in this case, Dec. 29) and $1.10. CSXI calculates the percent difference between the DOE's "Retail Diesel Fuel Price Index" and $1.10, multiplies the figure by 10 percent and then again by 100.

The 3.7 percent surcharge applies to CSXI's ramp-to-ramp, ramp-to-door, door-to-ramp and door-to-door rates. The drayage-only fuel surcharge Jan. 5-9 will be 4 percent.
