Yesterday, CSX Transportation unveiled an ultra-low emission GenSet locomotive at its yard in Selkirk, N.Y.
Jointly funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and CSXT, the locomotive emits less nitrous oxide, particulate matter and carbon dioxide than a traditional switcher. The Class I now operates five GenSets in the state of New York, including four in the Bronx area.
The introduction of GenSets network-wide is part of CSXT’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint 8 percent by 2011 — a goal the Class I achieved nearly one year ahead of schedule.
CSXT also announced yesterday that it had appointed Dean Piacente vice president of finance; Fredrik Eliasson, VP of chemicals and fertilizer to succeed Piacente; and Derrick Smith. VP of emerging markets to succeed Eliasson. Piacente succeeds Smith in the finance role.
