CSXT purchases International Electronic Machines' wheel inspection system

advertisement

CSX Transportation recently contracted International Electronic Machines Corp. (IEM) to supply and install its Wheel Inspection System Environment (WISE) at Selkirk Yard near Albany, N.Y.

The WISE diagnostic system features multi-line lasers and high-speed imaging equipment designed to create a three-dimensional model of wheels and obtain measurements, including flange angle and wheel diameter. Vehicle and wheelset data can be stored in a local computer or network mainframe.

WISE also includes a module designed to use electro-magnetic acoustic transduction and laser-guided calibration techniques to detect wheel cracks and tread defects. A portable electronic wheel and flaw gauge system provides backup measurements and detailed crack/flaw analysis.
