CTA, Bombardier finalize 406-car order

advertisement

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Bombardier Transportation recently finalized a $577 million contract under which Bombardier will provide 206 rapid-transit vehicles. The cars will be the first in CTA’s fleet to use alternating current propulsion.

CTA also exercised a first option for 200 additional vehicles. If the authority exercises all remaining options, the order could total 706 cars.

Bombardier will deliver 10 prototype cars to CTA 30 months after the car builder obtains a notice to proceed. The authority will test the vehicles for nine months before Bombardier begins manufacturing production series cars.
