On Friday, Johnstown America Corp. announced it is filling an order for 200 special purpose flat cars for Cedar American Rail Holdings Inc., which owns and operates the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corp., and Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp.

The 65-foot, 110-ton cars — the first new flat cars to be acquired by Cedar American, according to a prepared statement — are designed to carry steel plate and other materials, and be expanded with bulkheads. Cedar American plans to use the 286,000-pound gross load cars to move steel for IPSCO.

Johnstown America has subcontracted the order to Kasgro Rail Corp., which expects to complete delivery by year end.

Johnstown America produces aluminum coal, flat and intermodal cars, mill gondolas, AVC aluminum vehicle carriers and VersaCoil™ steel coil cars.
