A fuel supplier and bi-modal equipment manufacturer recently lined up rail moves involving a Class I and short line.

Continental Fuels Inc. landed a contract to deliver 40,000 to 60,000 barrels of light crude condensate monthly via rail to a customer in Brownsville, Texas. The customer is building a rail spur and loading station at the Port of Brownsville, and has acquired 54 rail cars.

When the spur and station are completed next month, Continental Fuels will begin moving the condensate via Union Pacific Railroad.

Meanwhile, American Surface Lines L.L.C. completed an intermodal test move on the Twin Cities & Western Railroad Co. (TC&W) using its new RailMate™ trailers, which are designed to haul heavy aggregates.

RailMate-equipped trucks moved sand from a quarry near Granite Falls, Minn., to the 229-mile short line’s spur in Glencoe, Minn. TC&W then carried the trailers to Canadian Pacific Railway’s Bass Lake Sub in Hopkins, Minn., where trucks picked up the RailMates and completed the move to an asphalt company in Maple Grove, Minn.

The Federal Railroad Administration required the test to analyze how well the RailMate moved heavy aggregates via rail and road.
