On Friday, FreightCar America Inc. announced it leased a Norfolk Southern Corp. facility in Roanoke, Va., to house a third rail-car production plant. FreightCar America owns manufacturing facilities in Danville, Ill., and Johnstown, Pa.

The company expects to begin delivering new cars — initially, aluminum freight cars — from the NS facility in the second quarter. FreightCar America plans to use the facility to produce aluminum, steel and stainless steel cars.

FreightCar America (formerly Johnstown America Corp.) builds coal, flat intermodal and coil steel cars, mill gondolas and motor vehicle carriers.
