GATX Rail recently signed an agreement to purchase up to 4,000 rail cars from American Railcar Industries Inc. (ARI), which is scheduled to begin delivering the cars in 2008.
On Wednesday, ARI announced it will construct a new rail-car manufacturing plant adjacent to the company’s tank-car plant in Marmaduke, Ark. Production at the new facility — which will have the capacity to build tank, covered-hopper and intermodal cars — is scheduled to begin in early 2008.
GATX Rail has a North American fleet of 108,000 rail cars.
