In October 2005, Schitter joined GE as senior account manager for rail services in the food, agriculture and mineral markets. He previously served as senior VP of sales for Trinity Rail and held various management positions at Union Tank Car Co.

GE Equipment Services, Rail Services manages a felt of 170,000 freight cars, including grain, coal and specialty hoppers; mill gondolas; and tank, box and intermodal flat cars. The company also leases 150,000 intermodal containers, trailers and chassis to railroads and shippers.
