Georgetown Rail Equipment Co. (GREX) recently obtained a multi-million dollar order from CSX Transportation to supply 200 additional GateSync-capable Solaris kits.
The company will deliver and install the automated ballast unloading system kits by early fall. GREX has converted a total of 350 CSXT ballast cars with the kits to date.
The company also recently received an order from BNSF Railway Co. for 125 similar kits. The Class I contracted Gunderson Southwest to complete installation and rehabilitation work. Reconfigured from existing remote control or manual unloading systems, the converted cars will operate in multiples of two to 40 and deliver ballast at train speeds up to 10 mph. The cars can be controlled from the locomotive cab.
Meanwhile, GREX also announced it appointed John Huddleston director-service planning, named David Hunsucker to the newly created position of director-Aurora integration and reassigned R.T. Swindall as director-service planning for the BNSF account base. Huddleston will be responsible for the CSXT, Norfolk Southern Railway and Amtrak accounts.
