On Feb. 13, The Greenbrier Cos. announced United Steelworkers of America-represented workers at its TrentonWorks rail-car manufacturing facility in Nova Scotia, Canada, ratified a three-year agreement. Contract terms weren't disclosed.

"The new contract recognizes the economic realities of the global marketplace, including a strong Canadian dollar," said Greenbrier President and Chief Executive Officer William Furman in a prepared statement. "It is favorable to both our employees at TrentonWorks, and to the ongoing competitiveness and productivity of our Canadian manufacturing facility."

Greenbrier builds rail cars in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and repairs and refurbishes cars and wheels at 13 North American locations. The company also builds and refurbishes cars in Poland, manufactures cars through unaffiliated subcontractors, produces castings through an unconsolidated joint venture, owns 12,000 cars and manages 113,000 cars.
