Harco Manufacturing Co. is taking the wraps off a diesel oxidation catalyst package designed for the freight and passenger locomotive market.
Harco recently developed the device in conjunction with locomotive builder MotivePower Inc. and diesel oxidation catalyst producer Sud-Chemie Inc. Designed to take the place of a silencer, the oxidation catalyst can be installed directly above the engine without being visible from a locomotive’s exterior.
Harco currently is filling MotivePower’s order for 15 devices, which will be installed on locomotives MotivePower is building for southern California commuter railroad Metrolink. The first locomotive will be delivered by August’s end.
