Johnstown America obtains coal-car order from Georgia power supplier

On Sept. 4, Johnstown America Corp. announced it recently received an order for 523 AutoFlood III™ automatic-discharge coal cars from Oglethorpe Power Corp., which plans to use the cars to move coal from the Powder River Basin (PRB) to an electric power plant in Juliette, Ga.

Johnstown America will build the 53-foot, 286,000-pound gross rail-load cars at its Danville, Ill., facility.

The car builder already has supplied enough cars to enable Oglethorpe Power to operate two trains between the PRB and the Juliette plant, which is operated by The Southern Co.

A non-profit power supplier, Oglethorpe Power serves 39 of Georgia's 42 customer-owned Electric Membership Corps.
