Johnstown America to deliver 375 aluminum auto-carrying cars to CPR

Yesterday, Johnstown America Corp. announced it's delivering 375 AVC™ aluminum bi-level cars to Canadian Pacific Railway.

Designed to move autos and minimize out-of-service time, the 90-foot cars feature a 50-year interchange life and weigh 17 percent less compared with similar steel cars. And because of an exemption, the AVC's aluminum superstructure doesn't need to be re-certified with the Association of American Railroads.

"We are making headway into the multi-level market with [the] car," said Johnstown America Vice President of Automotive Bill Wiles in a prepared statement. "Auto shippers now benefit from rust-free, higher and wider interiors, and superior door-edge protection."

Johnstown America also designs and builds aluminum coal, flat, intermodal and box cars, mill gondolas, and VersaCoil™ steel coil cars.
