Wabtec Global Services recently obtained three-year contracts from Kansas City Southern and Norfolk Southern Railway to install wireless rail-car maintenance and billing (CRB) systems. A Wabtec Corp. subsidiary, Wabtec Global will provide network design, handheld computers and hardware, and system support.

KCS and NS field workers will use a handheld device to record car inspection and repair work in real time and wirelessly submit data to a central network server. Workers also can retrieve car repair history information, and access and print work orders and repair records in the field.

CRB systems streamline the complex process of recording and invoicing repairs on cars owned by other railroads and leasing companies, said Wabtec Global Vice president and general Manager Robert Bourg in a prepared statement.

Wabtec Global provides software applications for freight, locomotive and intermodal repair and billing; inventory management solutions; component operation and maintenance training; and electronic, pneumatic and mechanical components repair services.
