KCS relocates power planners to Louisiana locomotive shop
advertisement
Late last month, Kansas City Southern moved its managers of locomotive utilization (MLUs) or "power desk" from the railroad's Kansas City, Mo., System Transportation Center to a Shreveport, La., locomotive shop.
The relocation enables MLUs to monitor the shop, predict power needs and plan locomotive utilization accordingly. Since the change, the power desk hasn't held any trains awaiting locomotives.
"The move has proven wildly successful by every measure," said KCS Vice President and Chief Mechanical Officer Jim Fisk in a prepared statement, adding that the relocation has improved communication within the shop.
