Next month, Kansas City Southern plans to take delivery of 12 F40C locomotives from Helm Financial Corp.
The Class I expects to lease the former passenger locomotives for nine months until General Motors Corp.'s Electro-Motive Division delivers 30 SD70ACe units sometime during the fourth quarter.
Helm will convert the locomotives into center units that KCS can use in three-unit consists. The locomotives will help KCS and The Texas Mexican Railway Co. handle additional volumes until the SD70ACe units arrive.
