Kansas City Streetcar No. 811 arrives for testing

Kansas City’s newest streetcar, No. 811, arrived last week in the city to serve the Main Street and Riverfront extensions, which will eventually connect the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) to Berkley Riverfront.

Manufactured by CAF USA Inc. in Elmira, New York, KC Streetcar No. 811 is the fifth of eight new streetcars numbered 807-814 to be delivered to Kansas City, Missouri. The final three are expected to arrive by the end of the year, KC Streetcar Authority officials said in a press release. 

CAF USA and Silk Road Transport delivered KC Streetcar No. 811 more than 1,000 miles from Elmira to Kansas City The streetcar was offloaded and transported to the Kite Singleton vehicle maintenance  facility. The streetcar will undergo shop testing on its braking system, vehicle leveling, sensors, door mechanisms and onboard digital signage for several weeks before it starts testing on the track. 

Meanwhile, KC Streetcar No. 807 is close to certification for passenger service. It will be the first of the new streetcars to operate on the downtown route.
