The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently unveiled a commuter-rail coach designed for bicyclists. The authority removed half of the car’s seats and installed 39 bike racks.

Scheduled to debut Sunday during the Annual Fitchburg Longsjo Classic bicycle race, the coach will serve bikers who travel on the Gloucester commuter-rail line during summer. Designed to accommodate 42 passengers, the car will make two round trips between Boston and Rockport on Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays.
