Next week, MHF Logistical Solutions Inc. plans to demonstrate its new wireless remote rail-car tracking and cargo monitoring service at the Waste Management Conference in Tucson, Ariz.

Featuring MHF-operated rail cars equipped with battery-operated wireless devices, and Global Positioning System and monitoring equipment, the service is designed to track cars’ location and operating status, and contents’ condition. Shippers receive alerts if cargo is tampered with or cars stop moving, and monitoring data on internal or external temperatures, pressure, impact and other variables.

“We were pioneers in making rail a viable option for the safe and economical transportation of radioactive materials,” said MHF Executive Vice President Rick Zink in a prepared statement. “Now, we're adding to the attractiveness of rail for a wide range of shippers.”

MFH provides packaging, transportation and technical services to radioactive, hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials shippers. The company owns more than 1,700 rail cars and 3,000 intermodal containers.
