MHF Logistical Solutions to launch 'smart' sensitive-cargo service

advertisement

Yesterday, MHF Logistical Solutions Inc. (MHF-LS) announced plans to offer a sensitive-cargo service featuring “smart” rail cars equipped with remote monitoring and diagnostic systems.

To be launched early next year, the service will enable shippers to track rail-car location and status, and monitor contents’ condition. Cars will be equipped with battery-operated, wireless devices and monitoring equipment featuring Global Positioning Satellite technology linked to MHF-LS’ reporting and operations systems.

Shippers will receive alerts if cargo is tampered with or cars stop moving, and can keep tabs on internal or external temperatures, pressure, impact and other variables.

MFH-LS provides packaging, transportation and technical services to radioactive, hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials shippers. The company owns more than 1,700 rail cars and 3,000 intermodal containers.
