Metro-North contracts Simmons Machine Tool to supply underfloor wheel truing system

MTA Metro-North Railroad recently awarded a contract to Simmons Machine Tool Corp. to design and manufacture a tandem underfloor wheel truing system.

To be installed at a new Harmon Yard facility in Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y., the system will include a tandem underfloor wheel lathe, as well as chip disposal, car progression and machine fluids management equipment.

The system will enable Metro-North to measure and true the tread of both wheel sets in a common truck to matching dimensions. The equipment will help the railroad maintain its new M-7 electrical car fleet and existing passenger cars.
