MTA Metro-North Railroad yesterday rebranded some of its locomotives with special colors and designs as part of a Heritage Series to highlight the railroad's 40th year of service.
Skilled craft workers at the commuter railroad's shop in White Plains, New York, applied a vinyl wrap to locomotive No. 208, the first to be rebranded, Metro-North officials said in a press release.
The colors of silver, blue and red pay homage to Metro-North’s original design created when the railroad was founded in 1983. The railroad's historic FL9 locomotives displayed those colors until the last unit was retired in April 2007.
Additional locomotives will be wrapped in the heritage liveries worn by predecessor railroads. All will remain in service for the foreseeable future, Metro-North officials said.
Locomotive No. 208 is one of 31 P32ACDM models the railroad uses to provide service on the northern Hudson and Harlem lines and the New Haven Line’s Danbury and Waterbury branches.
