Midland Manufacturing to begin service trials for new gaging device

Midland Manufacturing recently received Association of American Railroads approval to begin a two-year service trial for the LevelSure Gaging Device. The company expects to install initial service trial units on rail cars by month’s end.

An electronic wireless gaging device comprising a probe installed on a car, LevelSure is designed to continuously monitor product temperature and level, and recalculate the maximum load level based on product-specific gravity and temperature after the probe is activated. The gaging device sends a wireless signal through a transmitter attached on top of the probe to a monitor, which displays the level.

LevelSure can be retrofitted to Midland’s B-612 Magnetic Gaging Device and integrated with loading rack controls to provide automated shutoff when a tank car is full.

A division of the OPW Fluid Transfer Group, Midland provides tank car safety valves and equipment.
