Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway affiliate Logistics Management Systems (LMS) recently promoted Ken Liepold from operations manager to vice president and general manager, effective April 1. He succeeds Tom Flacke, who will retire March 31 after serving the company the past 19 years.

Liepold joined LMS in 1997 as operations manager. He previously was a maintenance and operations supervisor for Sawyer Environmental Services. Flacke joined LMS as warehouse manager in 1989, and was promoted to VP and GM in 2003. During his tenure, LMS doubled its annual revenue to $7 million and opened lumber reload facilities in Houlton, Jackman, Presque Isle and Van Buren, Maine.

Logistics Management Systems provides delivery, storage, regional trucking and rail/truck cross-dock services.

Meanwhile, the Watco Cos. Inc. announced it's expanding deployment of Wi-Tronix L.L.C.'s suite of remote locomotive monitoring systems. The South Kansas and Oklahoma and Arkansas Southern railroads' locomotive fleets will be outfitted with Wi-Tronix wireless processing units and fuel sensors next month.

Watco's Eastern Idaho and Austin Western railroads currently use Wi-Tronix's locomotive monitoring systems. The wireless processing units are designed to continuously monitor locomotive operation to help cut fuel usage and extend equipment life, such as by reducing traction motor wear
