Rail News: Mechanical
The Ohio Central Railroad System recently purchased ExpressYard™ software from SSG Innovations L.L.C. to help manage daily operations at rail-car maintenance facilities.
Owner and operator of 10 short lines in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Ohio Central plans to use the software and wireless handheld devices to input freight-car inspection data in the field. The handheld devices will validate inputted information against Association of American Railroads interchange rules and the Umler EMIS database before transmitting inspection reports.
Ohio Central will implement ExpressYard at the Ohio Central Railroad Inc., Ohio Southern Railroad Inc., Columbus & Ohio River Rail Road Co., Mahoning Valley Railway Co., Ohio & Pennsylvania Railroad Corp., Warren and Trumball Railroad Co., Youngstown & Austintown Railroad Inc., Youngstown Belt Railroad Co., Pittsburgh and Ohio Central Railroad, and Aliquippa & Ohio River Railroad.
“Using the ExpressYard system with the handhelds will allow us to better manage information in one centralized location, which should reduce errors and omissions, and decrease [information technology] overhead,” said Stephen Benson, Ohio Central Railroad System’s manager of customer service, information technology and cars, in a prepared statement.
