Rail News: Mechanical
TTX Co. recently began managing 70,000 domestic container chasses through a newly launched software-based system. Developed by the Class Is and TTX, the Chassis Management System is designed to improve intermodal asset utilization and availability, and reduce operating costs by tracking chassis activity within and between railroads.
“After over a decade of efforts by our many industry partners, we now have an agreed upon business process and a single software system to allow railroads to manage assets more efficiently,” said Union Pacific Railroad Assistant Vice President-Strategic Operations Barry Michaels in a prepared statement.
Owned by North America’s nine largest railroads, TTX owns and operates a free-running pool of more than 200,000 intermodal, automotive and other freight cars.
