Timken to supply tapered bearings to Chinese rail-car builder

The Timken Co. recently received an order from Chinese rail-car builder Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. for Timken® AP-2™ Class K tapered bearings.

The AP-2 bearing is designed to last longer under heavy axle loads, and reduce or eliminate fret wear between components and assembly loosening compared with standard bearings. The AP-2 also features fewer parts — including no seal wear ring — compared with other bearings.

"The Chinese rail market is an integral part in the growth of our global rail business," said James Gresh, president of China-Timken, in a prepared statement.

Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock annually produces more than 230,000 rail cars — more than one-third of Chinese car output.

A supplier of alloy and specialty steels, and components, Timken offers Timken® AP™, SP™ and AP-2™ tapered bearings, and premium rail-bearing grease and reconditioning services.
