TriMet on Oct. 15 will provide riders their first look at one of the newest-generation of MAX trains — the Type 6 — at the Southeast Park Avenue MAX Station in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Manufactured by Siemens Mobility, the new trains are slated to be rolled out in regular MAX service by year's end, TriMet officials said in a press release.
Representatives of TriMet’s Type 6 vehicle engineering team will attend the event to answer questions about the equipment. The new trains will replace the agency's Type 1 trains that have been serving riders since 1986.
The Type 6 train cars are undergoing testing at the Ruby Junction Rail Operations Facility in Gresham before advancing to a break-in period on the main MAX system. The trains are required to travel thousands of miles before they can start carrying passengers, agency officials said. The Type 6 trains feature operator cabs at both ends of the train; interior digital signs that display the next MAX stop on a line; LED lights indicating available doors for boarding and exiting; and improved temperature controls.
