Union Pacific Railroad recently unveiled a “Heritage Series” of locomotives to honor predecessor railroads’ contributions to the Class I. Each unit will feature a paint scheme incorporating elements of one of the six railroads that merged with UP.

Unveiled July 30, the first two locomotives pay tribute to the Missouri Pacific and Western Pacific railroads’ workers. Later this year, UP will roll out locomotives honoring the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy), Chicago & North Western, Southern Pacific, and Denver & Rio Grande railroads.

“It is time we pay homage to those railroads and the generations of men and women who helped to build a great nation and the foundation for our future,” said UP Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Davidson in a prepared statement.

The Heritage Series marks the fifth time UP has painted locomotives in colors other than its traditional paint scheme.
