USDOT awards locomotive-simulator contract

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded a $1.1 million contract to Acme Worldwide Enterprises Inc. to build two locomotive simulators.

The U.S. Army plans to use one simulator at Fort Eustis, Va., to qualify locomotive engineers and provide refresher training. The other simulator will be used by the John A. Volpe National Transportation Center in Cambridge, Mass., to conduct safety research for the Federal Railroad Administration.

Acme Worldwide will design and produce the simulators at its Albuquerque, N.M., facility. The contract — which could increase in value to $1.7 million if all options are exercised — enables the company to expand its business into the railroad industry, said Acme Worldwide President Randall Gurule in a prepared statement.
