WMATA unveils designs for next-generation rail cars
advertisement
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently unveiled the final design for the next generation of the 7000-series rail cars.
The agency ordered the new cars to replace 1000-series cars — the oldest in WMATA’s fleet — and to comply with recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board, WMATA officials said in a prepared statement.
The cars will feature: a stainless exterior with 64 vinyl padded seats; nonslip flooring; wider aisles; two LCD route maps and four video screens in each train to enable riders to track train locations and station stops; and automated public-address systems and closed-circuit television cameras.
