Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Between June 21 and Sept. 6, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will conduct its summer construction program, which includes track, signal and switch improvements.
The agency will upgrade a signal and switching system, install microprocessor-based technology, and replace and reconfigure switches near Queens Village. LIRR also will install four high-speed crossovers, 6,000 steel-reinforced concrete ties and more than four miles of welded rail.
In addition, the agency will replace 3,000 wood ties on the Port Washington Branch between Bayside and Great Neck.
