Rail News: Maintenance Of Way

CTA to rebuild Purple Line viaduct

advertisement

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently awarded a $3.3 million contract to Illinois Constructors Corp. to replace the Church Street viaduct located on the Purple Line in Evanston, Ill.

The project includes replacing the concrete viaduct with a steel structure, and adding abutments, retaining walls, foundations, and waterproofing and drainage systems. The contractor also will replace ties and improve lighting under the bridge.

CTA will use rail modernization funds from the Federal Transit Administration to complete the project.

The 98-year-old Church Street viaduct is the second of six Purple Line bridges that CTA is replacing to eliminate slow zones and improve travel times.
