advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad plans to spend $21 million to construct a more than nine-mile second mainline near Bell City, Mo.
The project, which extends about four miles to the north and south of Bell City, is designed to support long-range projected traffic growth, improve operating efficiency, increase the line's capacity and enhance safety, UP officials said in a press release. Work began earlier this month and is scheduled to conclude by October's end.
The project is part of UP's $2.2 billion replacement capital budget for 2013. The Class I's total capital expenditures are budgeted at $3.6 billion this year.
