The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has launched an online trip planner that enables riders to explore their travel options now in preparation for the upcoming Red Line South reconstruction project.Using the planner at www.redlinesouth.com, riders can enter a starting point and destination, choose weekday or weekend travel, and indicate a travel time. The planner uses Google Maps to provide information on multiple transit-route options, including travel-time estimates, CTA officials said in a press release.Scheduled to begin May 19, the project calls for rebuilding the tracks and improving stations along the 10-mile stretch of the Red Line South from Cermak-Chinatown to 95th Street. The CTA also is distributing project-information fliers with travel tips and information on alternative bus and rail service during the $425 million project.
